ST. GEORGE – On February 19 just before 6 p.m. multiple officers of St. George Police Department responded to a traffic collision at River Rd. and St. George Blvd. When officers arrived, the intersection was completely blocked. Dispatch relayed to the officers information that the suspect was physically fighting people on scene. Multiple fire and emergency medical service units responded to assist.
St. George Police Department reports that Cory Sutton, his wife, and 3-year-old son were traveling north on River Road in their minivan. Cory was upset with his wife, so he intentionally accelerated to a high rate of speed on River Rd. He then intentionally sideswiped a small Nissan pickup and crashed into the rear of a large Dodge pickup near the intersection of River Rd. and St. George Blvd. All the vehicles involved were travelling northbound.
Following the collision, Cory exited his minivan, and started yelling at his wife. She couldn’t move because she was injured and she began screaming for help. A female witness tried to intervene but Cory grabbed her and pushed her to the ground. The adult male driver of the Dodge truck involved in the crash intervened to protect the female witness and Cory assaulted him by punching him in the face. This male witness and other bystanders subdued Cory in an effort to curb Cory’s violence until police arrived.
Cory, his wife and son were all transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center via ambulance. Traffic was disrupted for approximately one hour while medical personnel tended to victims, police investigated the crash, wreckers towed vehicles, and fire personnel cleaned debris from the roadway.
Cory Sutton was arrested, medically cleared at DRMC, and booked into jail on the following charges: DV Aggravated Assault, DV Criminal Mischief, DV in the Presence of a Child, 4 counts of Aggravated Assault, 2 counts of Simple Assault, Reckless Driving, Interfering/Resisting Arrest, and Leaving the Scene of a PI Accident.
this guy needs to be locked up for a long long time!!
I know Cory and his family well. To someone unfamiliar with Cory and after reading this article, it might seem odd to hear, but he’s always been a great guy, very even-keeled and mellow.. He’s personally lent his time and resources to help our family and I can only think of how much I love his family and hope that they will work through this challenge.
Yep, he sounds like a great guy. I had an argument with my wife, so I’m going to try to kill her and my son by crashing into innocent people with my car.
I”ve been a nice guy all my life. Everyone on the road tomorrow better watch out for me. I just know it will be a bad day.

If this guy had touched my wife he would be dead. Cory’s wife needs to find a good divorce attorney.
Unfortunately, something happened in this guy’s life that made him lose it. I feel for him and his family. It’s actually hard to live in today’s world with the millions of stresses, and then have to support a family on top of it. Something tells me it all came to a boiling point on this day, and he just chose the wrong outlet for his aggression. Similar things have happened to me, as well as my father.
Regardless of the circumstances leading up to this man’s bad behavior, as a society, we have to quit making excuses for the likes of such. BY THE WAY; I didn’t see anyone post concern for the several victims of this
man’s RAGE!
Seriously? This guy intentionally races up River Road and crashes into 2 other vehicles with his wife and 3-YEAR-OLD kid in his car, and some of you are defending him?! I know this is a public comment board, but I’ve got to follow up Lawrence here about how there has been more concern for the suspect than any of the victims.
Sorry Bill, but I think this is going to be a little more than “working through a challenge”, if his wife knows what’s good for her. I love hearing about how great a guy someone is right after they kill someone or send their wife to the hospital. Funny how it’s always “out of character” to the people around him… I wonder if his wife would agree.
It sounds like someone needs to keep an eye on The Skewed Review, too. If someone can’t handle the responsibility of supporting a family and dealing with the “stresses of the world”, there are plenty of other safe and therapeutic releases… or maybe consider this before starting a family in the first place.
It’s really disgusting to see support and justification for this dirtbag. I hope a few of these charges stick and he spends a little time in jail, and then gets to deal with consequences when he gets out. I’m all for second chances, but his first chance was as big a failure as they come and he should pay for it.
I agree with Scott, too… if he had touched my wife he’d regret it (even if I regretted it after that . Ha!) Oh, and I hope the Dodge truck driver got a couple swings in while waiting for the police.

My neighbors are Cory’s parents. This is absolutely out of character. Cory is no dirtbag. Does it make you feel important to judge someone when you don’t have all the facts? Sure, the article says the speed and the collisions were intentional, but has that been proven. Sometimes irrational behavior has a medical cause and I hope they can find Cory some help. Meanwhile, the family’s real friends are helping them.

Wow, no Child Endangerment charges, huh? I guess assaulting someone in front of your child wagers more than the child’s life…
Some of you say it is out of character for him, but do you live with him. We can never fully say that we know someones character unless we live their life, see what they do behind closed doors. There is no telling what this escalated from and defending him with his actions being “out of character” is no defense. I’m sure people thought Josh Powell was a stand up guy before his wife went missing. Hell, people were even defending him after the fact. The same goes for child molesters or anyone that you love that does something that you refuse to believe is possible.
My thoughts are with his wife and child.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, I would like to applaud the witnesses who stepped forward to do the right thing. It doesn’t seem like there are too many folks out there anymore that are willing to step up and defend someone when they are in trouble… seems much easier to just ignore and go about your business. I think of these two as societal role models in how we need to help and support each other out of genuine concern for the well being of others and not just ourselves.
By saying it was “out of character”, I am by no means saying he shouldn’t have to account for his actions. I did not say to drop all charges and release him on my words alone. I am merely suggesting that there may have been a medical cause and there was no reason to conclude that he is ALWAYS like this, as some here had done. For example, I know that their boy had recently been to the hospital and Cory had spent the entire morning and afternoon, not eating, and worried about the child’s welfare. His blood sugar was likely low and may have affected his thought process.
You will probably find it suspicious, but Cory doesn’t remember any of the accident or what led up to it. Based on current medical evidence, he seems to have suffered a minor stroke, affecting his right side. I hope to find out more when I talk his mom.
I don’t recall any of those saying it was “out of character” using that as a defense. They were just stating what their prior experience was. As a father with a son that was diagnosed with a mental condition in his mid 20’s that led to very bizarre behavior he never exhibited previously and from which he eventually took his life, there are many things most of us don’t understand. We are not giving anyone a “free pass” but until you know all the facts, it’s tough to make a judgment call on someone. Protect the innocent, and address the cause and have just consequences, including necessary help are all part of the process.
