ST. GEORGE – Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call for a house fire at 1606 S. Flatrock at 2:45 p.m., in the Boulders area of St. George on Monday.

Firefighters responded to the scene and arrived to large amounts of thick smoke coming from the St. George home.

“We arrived and there was heavy black smoke coming from the front door and the back,” St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker said.

Brent Winder, whose family had been renting the home, discovered the fire after opening the

front door. He said the amount of smoke that greeted his wife and himself was overwhelming.

“We opened up the front door and were almost knocked over by the smoke,” Winder said.

Fire crews “made an interior attack,” Stoker said, and soon discovered the origin point of the fire in a family room area of the home.

The fire was out by 3:30 p.m.

Stoker said there was still a large amount of smoke coming from the inside of the home. After the home was allowed to ventilate for a short period after the fire, firefighters re-enter to begin an investigation, he said.

No one was injured in the fire and the amount of property damage is currently unknown. The cause of the fire is also unknown at this time.
