ST. GEORGE – A warm and clear February morning in St. George welcomed participants and spectators to the 2nd Annual Tuff Kids Criterium race, held at the old St. George Municipal Airport location on Airport Road.
As crowds cheered, the racers aged 12 and under began at 10 a.m. and finished at noon. Races were held in heats, categorized into gender and age groups from 2 to 12-years-old. Bike races were run in heats of between 4 and 8 kids at a time.
“This is the second annual race and our turnout has doubled” said sponsorship coordinator Melanie Merrill. “We want to increase awareness to races and promote healthy community involvement.”
T-shirts and medals were awarded to all competitors as well as prizes for a raffle.
The race was sponsored by the City of St. George, Red Rock Cycle and Bicycles Unlimited.
