ST. GEORGE – A trial date has been set for a St. George man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and a sheriff’s deputy with a shovel handle in November 2011.
Cameron Carson, 25, is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated burglary. Both counts are third-degree felonies.
Carson allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her male companion, a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy at the deputy’s home. On the night of Nov. 30, Carson tracked his ex-girlfriend to the home of a man she was visiting. He proceeded to enter the man’s home through an unlocked door and soon found the two together.
Carson proceeded to beat the deputy with a shovel handle and then with his fists. He then pursued the woman into a parking lot and began to hit her. A concerned neighbor ultimately came between Carson and the woman, and detained Carson until police arrived on the scene (see previous story here).
The ex-girlfriend sustained minor injuries while the deputy was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center for the treatment of some cuts and bruises.
Brian Filter, the prosecuting attorney in the case, said Carson pled not guilty to the charges.
Carson’s bail is also set for $300,000. Should he be able to post bail bond, Carson will be under house arrest between court dates, Filter said.
Carson’s next court appearance in on April 12, with a trial date set for April 30.
