LEEDS – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded to reports of a man armed with a gun in the Leeds area on New Year’s Day.

Sheriff Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in which a male suspect was reported to have fled the scene with a gun on Jan. 1.

While en route, the suspect was identified as a 49-year-old Leeds resident. He was reported to have fired the gun several times. He fled into a mountainous area where additional shots were heard by deputies, yet there was no indication that the suspect was aiming for anyone in particular.

The Washington County SWAT Team was activated to help search for the suspect. He was ultimately taken into custody a short time later when he returned to his residence. No one was injured during the incident.

The man’s wife was also arrested for interfering with deputies during the search for her husband.
