ST. GEORGE – Thomas S. Monson, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was listed among America’s top ten most admired men for 2011, according to a Gallup poll.
According to an article on Gallop’s website by Jeffery Jones, it is common for the president of the Mormon Church to be noted, yet Monson is the first to break into the top ten.
Also joining Monson on the list for the first time is billionaire investor Warren Buffett.
President Barack Obama was at the top of the list, with remainder of America’s most admired men named in descending order: George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Rev. Billy Graham, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump, Pope Benedict XVI and Bill Gates.
Buffett and Monson were ranked at fifth and tenth place respectively.
The poll also included America’s most admired woman. Hillary Clinton was first on the list, followed by Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Sarah Palin, Condeleeza Rice, Laura Bush, Margaret Thatcher, Ellen Degeneres, Queen Elizabeth II and Michelle Buchman.
It is common for the America’s most admired to hail from the worlds of business, entertainment, government and religion. As seen, individuals named to the list can come from anywhere in the world, with the only requiredment being they are currently living.
The results are based on a USA Today/Gallop poll held between Dec. 15 and 18.
