SALT LAKE CITY – The Hurricane Tigers came from behind to beat the Spanish Fork Dons 38-35 Thursday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium in one-half of the state semi-finals.

The Tigers trailed at halftime 21-17 for only the second time all season. The only other time the Tigers trailed at half was week four against Cedar who they might play in the state championship if Cedar can beat Desert Hills tonight.

After the half, the Tigers scored 14 unanswered points; taking a 31-21 lead and they never looked back. Tiger running back Brian Scott scored all three of his touchdowns in the second half.

Scott had another huge game rushing for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Scott time and time again came up big for the Tigers picking up first downs on third and fourth down throughout the game. Scott carried the ball 36 times in the ball game.

Don’s quarterback Hayden Nielson threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns. Tiger quarterback Taylor Parker had a very workman like game throwing for 102 yards completing 5-8 passes.

The Don’s did a great job containing Tiger running backs Adam Thompson and Weston Yardley. Thompson only had 50 yards rushing and Yardley only had 47. Both players average over 10 yards per carry on the season but tonight Thompson averaged 4.5 yards per carry and Yardley averaged 5.9 yards per carry.

The Dons 35 points is the most points the Tigers have given up since week two against West Jordan and the second most points the Tigers have given up all year. (West Jordan scored 36 points against the Tigers)

The Tigers are now 12-0 on the season and are in the state championship game for the fourth-straight year. The Tigers will play the winner of the Desert Hills vs Cedar game tonight at Dixie St. College. (You can hear that game live on Fox News Radio 96.7fm 1450am KZNU)
