HURRICANE – The Hurricane Tigers running back Brian Scott ran for 168 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-21 win over the Pine View Panthers.
Scott went over the 1,000-yard mark on the season. Scott’s three touchdowns brought his touchdown total to 19 for the season.
The Tigers did what they do best and kept the ball on the ground rushing for 243 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Tigers quarterback Taylor Parker only threw the ball three times all game connection on two of them for a total of 17 yards.
Even though this was a game that pit the first place Tigers against the last place Panthers, it was still an intense game because of the great history between the two rivals. Tigers coach Homer said, “We knew it was going to be an intense game, not only were they fighting for their playoff lives but they (Pine View) have a handful of seniors that used to go to Hurricane.”
Though the Tigers were up 14-0 at the half, but the Panthers never gave up. Pine View scored with a few minutes left in the third to cut the Panther lead to seven.
On the ensuing kickoff, Jared Edwards took the Panther kick all the way to the Tiger 11-yard line. Three plays later, Scott punched it in the end zone from seven yards out bringing the Tigers lead back to 14.
The Panthers fell behind 21 after the Tiger’s Taylor Parker intercepted a Logan Terry pass and ran 42-yards to pay dirt making the score 35-14.
The Panther’s quarterback Braxton Peterson scored on a 1-yard run play with less then a minute left in the game to make it 35-21. Peterson finished the game with 69 yards passing and 131 yards rushing.
Next week, the Panthers host Canyon View at 7 p.m. The Hurricane Tigers have the week off and come back Thursday, October 13, against Desert Hills who is also undefeated in Region play.
