ST. GEORGE – With Debris-Free Dixie Day on Sept. 17, locals will have the chance to participate in a city wide clean up.
A bi-annual event, Debris-Free Dixie Day is a challenge from Mayor Dan McArthur to neighborhoods and community groups to engage in a series of clean -up projects. To aid in this endeavor, large dumpsters will be placed at 11 separate locations throughout the city. Backhoes will also be assigned to each dumpster cite to help move larger and heavier dumpster-bound items.
“This [day] really has made a difference,” said Miriam Palma, a spokeswoman for the public works department.
One of the benefits of Debris-Free Dixie Day that Palma mentioned was that people unable to go to landfill are able to have garbage taken away thanks to the public dumpsters. Volunteers have also been instrumental in clearing out vacant lots during the community clean up.
Debris Free Dixie Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dumpster locations, as well as potential dumping restrictions can be found on the City of St. George website.
