ST. GEORGE – On Sept. 22, St. George will join five other Utah cities for Recovery Day, a day focused on reminding people of the hope that can come through conquering addiction.
“It’s a celebration of recovering from addiction,” said Angi Graff, a substance abuse program manager with the Southwest Behavioral Health Center.
Graff added that it is easy for people to focus on the negative when it comes to the subject of addiction. The object of Recovery Day is to help people see that there is help out there, and that addiction can be overcome.
“Recovery is possible,” Graff said.
Recovery Day events will include public speakers, free food, family activities and musical performances. Various addiction recovery organizations like the Southwest Behavioral Health Center will also be providing information to addicts and their families during the event’s info fair. Admission is free.
A 5k fun walk/run is also scheduled for the morning at 6:30 a.m.
Park City, Provo, Ogden, Salt Lake City and Toole will be holding similar events.
Recovery Day will be held at the St. George City Town Square on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
