HURRICANE – The Hurricane Tigers are 4-0 after a 29-20 win over the Cedar City Reds Friday night at Hurricane High School. The Tigers jumped on the back of running back Brian Scott who rushed for 245 yards and three touchdowns.
Cedar’s game plan was to keep the ball on the ground and work the clock; they did that winning time of possession 31:42 to 16:18. The Reds got on the board first with a seven-yard run by John Ursua. Ursua did a great job controlling the game, rushing for 191 yards and two touchdowns and throwing for 140 yards and another touchdown.
With under one minute to play in the 3rd quarter, the Tigers finally got on the board scoring on a five-yard run by Brian Scott. The Tigers went for two and converted to take a 8-7 lead with one quarter to go.
During the 4th quarter, the two teams combined for a total of five touchdowns and the Tigers put to rest any upset hopes the Reds had. Cedar scored first in the 4th quarter to take a 13-8 lead with 8:34 remaining.
Not even one minute later, Scott took his second touchdown to the house on a 63-yard run to put the Tigers up one. Hurricane again went for two and got it to make it a 16-13 Tiger lead. Another Scott touchdown with 3:57 left in the game made it 22-13. The Tigers went for the extra point for the first time all game and missed keeping the score 22-13. The Reds marched down the field and scored on the lone touchdown pass of the game a 11-yard strike for Ursua to wide receiver Braiden French. A Tiger three play 47-yard drive with 1:30 to play ended all hopes of a comeback.
Tiger quarterback Taylor Parker made his much anticipated return after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury. Parker looked shaky going 2-6 for seven yards throwing one interception and losing a fumble.
Next week’s game will match the last two remaining undefeated teams, the Hurricane Tigers vs the Dixie Flyers at Dixie High School at 7 p.m. Cedar has the week off.
