woman ejected in critical condition

WASHINGTON COUNTY – A car accident on Interstate 15 yesterday left one woman dead after she was ejected from the vehicle she was a passenger in.

Marci Jones, 63, of Draper, was not wearing a seat belt when the vehicle, driven by a 65-year-old male, went off the left shoulder while traveling southbound. Corporal Todd Johnson with the Utah Highway Patrol said the vehicle hit a concrete barrier before crossing back into the right lanes and rolling two or three times.

A helicopter was originally called in, but the woman was transported by ambulance in critical condition. (See previous story) Johnson confirmed that she died last night due to those injuries. The driver was listed as having non life threatening injuries.

Johnson said the cause of the accident is under investigation, however investigators do not believe the vehicle was driving at excessive speeds. Alcohol is believed not to be a factor.
