St. George City Council Meeting: Five National Champions Honored; New Undercover Police Vehicles Approved

ST. GEORGE – Five youths were honored at tonight’s St. George City Council meeting for being five of 10 youths in Southern Utah to compete at the National Track Meet.

Laveni Vaka, Tierra Orr, Kylee Carter, Starlee Woodbury and Jenny Stewart, who are now national champions, were presented with sesquicentennial pins.

Vaka placed 1st in the 9-10 year olds 50-meter dash with a time of 7.68 seconds.

Orr, Carter, Woodbury and Stewart won the 4×100-meter relay for 13-14 year olds with a winning time of 53.74 seconds. This was more than half a second faster than the 2nd place team.

Business resumed and among the items on the agenda for this meeting were unanimous approval for the following bid openings/awards: The annual road/street paint Utah Department of Transportation contract was approved at a budget of $60,551.25; the state contract for the purchase and retrofitting of three undercover police vehicles at a budget of 75,805.52; and the asphalt patch and repair contract awarded to AT Asphalt at a budget of $75,000.

This weeks meeting held no resolutions on the agenda.

    Speaking of pavement patch and repair, when is north Bluff gonna get some much needed attention?! So sick and tired of dodging potholes way back from last winter’s cold, wet weather. Being one of the busiest streets, the constant traffic is taking even more toll!

      Are you talking Bluff St in St. George? That street was just re-paved from I-15 all the way to Snow Canyon Prkwy intersection! Must be talking about some other Bluff St.

    You have the posted time of 53.74. That was the time of the 2nd place winners. The 1st place winners time was 53.21.
