WASHINGTON COUNTY – Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, will be taking a break during his recess to visit Southern Utah and hold a town hall meeting and an open house.

Lee will hold an open house on Sept. 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in St. George, at 285 West Tabernacle, Suite 200. The town hall meeting will be held that same day from 7 to 8 p.m. at the city council chambers, 175 East 200 North in St. George.

Press Secretary Emily Bennion said Lee would like to visit with residents and hear their concerns, and “what they want him to know and to take back to Washington.”

Bennion said Lee’s main objective, since arriving to the Senate in January, has been to get the country’s financial situation back in order. Lee, along with Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, fought in the Senate for a Cut, Cap and Balance that would have forced Congress to cut spending and balance the budget each year.

The bill was co-sponsored by 41 members, but never made it to the Senate Floor after being shot down by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), said Communications Director Brian Phillips. The House voted and passed a Cut, Cap and Balance that would have cut spending by $6 trillion and required a constitutional amendment be sent to the states – something Lee and Hatch have been pushing.

“… Congress does not possess the discipline to not spend more than it takes in,” Phillips said on Lee’s behalf. “We can’t rely on Congress to [balance the budget] on their own. We need something binding in the Constitution.”

Phillips said another of Lee’s concerns is a possible “federal land grab.” He said Lee has been on several phone calls with county commissioners to discuss the “Wilderness Study Areas;” which he said could take land from Utahans – land that could be used for economic growth.

As for next year’s election, Phillips said no one has officially announced his or her run for Senate against Hatch and, if that happens, Lee will not weigh in.

“He certainly works with Senator Hatch every day and is supportive of him,” Phillips said. “He certainly wishes [Hatch] well and we’ll leave it at that.”

Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch are the reason our credit rating was downgraded. Thanks, guys!

I couldn’t agree with you more, Gordon. S&P said that the Republicans intransigence about raising taxes on the wealthy was one of the main reasons that they downgraded our credit rating. I’d like to hear this senator respond to that, but I’m afraid that all we’d hear is more anti Obama rhetoric.

Kind of funny Lee complains about Congress spending more money than it brings in……apparently his $174,000 a year (plus top of the line benefits!) isn’t enough for him. Get your questions ready for Lee — like why he wants to eliminate social securtiy, medicare and child labor laws.

The cnstitution prohibits Congress and the States that “Congress shall not pass a Bill of Attainder”, and for the States, “The States shall not make any Bill of Attainder” (Article I Section 9 cause 3, and Section 10 clause 1 respectiviely.

A Bill of Attainder is a law targeting an identifiable group for punishment without benefit of a trial. State and Federal laws that target possession and use of controlled substances are Bills of Attainder as person tried for violating the comtrolled substance laws cannot let the jury look at evidence proving that the defendant”s posssession and/or use was tsuch that no harm to a person or another’s property related to possession and/or use of any contrlled substances..any person or another’s property was thtreatened or harmed by possession and/or use of any controlled substances.

The findings and declarations by Congress form the bases of the Controlled Sustance laws. In three sentances- we gotcha!.
    c

” Congress makes the following findings and declarations”

    (1) Many of the drugs included within this subchapter have a useful and legitimate medical purpose and are necessary to maintain the health and general welfare of the Amrican people.

    (2) The illegal importation, manufacture, distribution and possession and improper use of controlled susbtances have a substantial and detrimental effect on the health and gener;la welfare of the American people..”

Look atr number (2) as it was Congress that made the “importation ,manufacture, distribution and possession and improper use of controlled susbvtances” illegal. None of the activities that are essential functions of any business, and a person’s deceision to self medicate is a fundamental and most humanly basic right, as us the righrt to choose what substances he or she consumes..

It is the sheer fact of Congress’ declaring thge activities illegal that have susbstantial detrimental effect on the health and general welfare of the American people. not the mere importing , manufacture, distribution and possession and improper use [improper use is use without a doctors prescriiption ] that is harmful it is Congress making the activities illegal and Congress made as accurate a statement as Co9ngress ever made.

Opium and opiate . derivatives , LSD and Peyote, and Marijuana are deemed drugs that have no “useful or legitimate medical purpose” that Congress crimiinalizes . Congress and the state legislslatures manufacture manufacture real criminals out of ersatz criminals aand each of thes ecriminals are used to populate every community in the U.S.for little Mary to contend with as she grows intro adulthood.

Every manufactured criminal incrfeases the populationb and thereby increasaes the probabilitiess of children and adulpts, young and old, fat and skinny, rich and poor, male and female coming into contact witha criminal. The controlled substance laws are thge mechaniusm that have a substantial detrimentalffect on the healthg and general welfare of the Americanh people and Congress confessed that it was their law that is harming the health and welfare oif the American people..

Hey Mike, has Congress made the decision that the American people suffer frolm Congressional trashing from your activities and your colleagues in the U.S. Senate thyat have created a slam dunk future that is easy to predict? With 40 millio9n Amjericans, conservatively counted, , being somje kind of drug activity violator and add the ever growing law enforcement industry with incrfeasing use of sophisticated technology in ferreting out drug law violations tat will ultimately result in construction oif concentration camps (Phoenix already has such) just to save money and just to create hatred, viciousness conflicts, suspicionn, social bifurcation, increases in classsic crimes, destruction and severe damage to the family and commmunity units,, to short circuiting millions of individual lives that you ‘officials’ have heaped on us?
Yaou, MNike coplaing of child labor laws, well Mr. Senatror what avbout Congressioal Nazionale Sozialsm and the creation of a huge network of unregulated GeheimeStadtsPolezei in the form of melding federal, state, county and local law enflorcementuni agencies into what, a killing machine?.

Im 1945 die sehr bose werten sagt – “Wo sind alles die GeheimeStadtsPolezei heute? Ah,Sie haben das geshaft nach Langtley Virginia verlect. – ja vertlich..

Have a worderful beautiful day that your $174,000 per annum stimulus package, AKA you annual professional remuneration, such a meager subsistence – how do you ladies and gententlement get through even one day on such a starvation and humiliating grovewlling existence you have voted for yourselves? I pray for your salvation.

“Two things,” Kant said,.”leave me in breathless awe,.
The stary heavens and moral law.”

But I know a thing more aweful and obscure,
the long, long patience of the plundered poor.
