ST. GEORGE – The St. George City Council held their biweekly meeting Thursday, July 21, in the City Council Chambers.
Among the items on the agenda was the application for a conditional use permit for an in home child day care center. The CUP was granted to Tiffany Nelson with unaninmous approval.
Nelson, a former Mrs. Utah, will own and operate the business from her home and provide child day care for up to 16 children.
Also unanimously approved was a motion for a CUP for a 30-acre motocross park outside of St. George.
The applicant, Judd Palmer, presented a thorough business proposal, which addressed various concerns such as dust and water considerations, traffic flow and operational occupancy.
Palmer estimates an average of 12 races per year in addition to the normal open-to-the-public operation. The park will be a benefit to the local businesses of St. George as well as the motorcycling community, both pro and enthusiast
The motocross site is located northwest of Exit 6 on Southern Parkway.
City Council meetings are held twice monthly and are open to the public.

Glad this will be privately owned, not city funded like that lovely carousel that partially fell apart on the heads of citizens while riding it.
Is the location right? Northwest of Exit 6 is not on Southern Parkway (which is the road that goes east from Exit 2 to the new airport). Northwest of Exit 6 would put it right smack dab in the middle of the old airport hill or residential areas.
So another low brow form of entertainment. When will the city bring in quality activities?
I noticed Ben in the backgroun that made me wonder… Could you do an article about who is up for city council in the next election cycle. Also some information on who is running again. I noticed on the city websie that Gloria is gonna try and get back in (I hope the city is smarter than that).

Re: Not a Mormon- sometimes these comments are just too funny. The Southern Parkway is a separate roadway system from the I-15 freeway. And yes, it has it’s own Exit #6. This Exit is about 6 miles “east” of Exit #2 on I-15 heading to the New airport. The airport exit is #7 and so the exit 6 reported in the story is correct. Oh by the way, the airport exit would 7 miles from I-15 in an easterly direction and that’s why it is called exit #7.

Thanks for the clarification; amazing how exit and mile marker numbering works, isn’t it? It’s like there’s a system or something. I didn’t realize that there would be multiple exits on a dead-end rinky dink road that only serves to go to the scam of an “international airport” and an undeveloped pipe-dream housing community. I-15 (well, an interstate or freeway, really) is the only logical conclusion when the word “exits” is used.

Deagle, I’m glad he’s gone only because he has returned to the United States and the real world; but we need more of his kind here in Utah. His comments are spot on and representative of how normal people do voice themselves everyday in the rest of the world outside of the self-imposed, imaginary mormon bubble that some misguided people think actually protects Utah. There is nothing wrong with swearing. God doesn’t send you to hell for it or some make believe “lower level” of heaven.

Congrats City of St. George!!!!!! What a great move. MX riding and racing is a family sport and MX riders/racers have a lot of money that they are willing to spend in local dirt bike friendly towns. Mammoth Lakes CA. puts on a 10 day race at the end of June every year, the boost to the local economy is over 5 million dollars. Great job St. George!!!!
