ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College student violinist KateLyn Wall has been selected to attend the prestigious Brevard Music Festival summer festival this June 24-through-August 7, held on the campus of Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. Ms. Wall, a junior music major from Centerville, Utah, auditioned for a spot at the Festival this past January and was not only accepted, but received a scholarship to attend the event.
Students from colleges and universities from across the country apply to attend this competitive music festival. During the eight-week event, students will have the opportunity to work and learn from such artists as Keith Lockhart and Yo Yo Ma, among other composers and conductors.
“This is a great opportunity for KateLyn,” says Dr. Paul Abegg, DSC director of string studies. “We couldn’t have a better representative for Dixie State. She is a hard worker, diligent and teachable student as well as a talented violinist and will be a wonderful ambassador for our institution.”
Wall has played the violin since the age of 12. She has performed in a number of orchestras, including the Davis Youth Symphony; Utah Youth Symphony; Viewmont High School Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Symphony Orchestra, for which she was a soloist in their annual Salute to Youth; and the Dixie State Symphony Orchestra. Wall has also performed in many string chamber ensembles in the DSC String Chamber Program. Last summer she was a violinist in the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific in Powell River, Canada.
