Riley, who originally grew up in Cedar City before moving to Seattle last year, was on-hand at Westates Theater in Cedar City Friday to sign movie posters for fans attending “Super 8” on opening day.

Riley plays Charles, a movie director who is filming a Zombie movie with his friends. During filming, the kids witness a horrific train crash and barely survive themselves. Shortly after, unusual disappearances convince the kids to investigate what is happening in their small town.

“Super 8” takes place in 1979 in a small town in Ohio. The film is written and directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Abrams, Steven Spielberg and Bryan Burk.

Riley said he heard about the movie after he got a call from his agent in L.A. He sent a video and quickly received a callback.

Riley is no stranger to acting, however. He was a member of the Shakespearean Festival and began acting in first grade.

Riley already has many fans. Several were lined up for his autograph at the theater.

“It was intense and it was awesome,” said 14-year-old Carter Brown.

Carter’s dad, Kirt, said the movie was great, but may not be suitable for young children, as there were several scenes that really “make you jump.”

“It was great,” Kirt Brown said. “Great suspense. There’s some language but no nudity. I think the PG13 (rating) is accurate.”
