Women’s Premier Soccer League in St. George

ST. GEORGE –  This weekend FC St. George of the Women’s Premier Soccer League begins 2nd year action as they take on the Utah Starzz at Desert Hills High School.  Play begins at 8 p.m .on Saturday May 28, with another game at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day against Salt Lake City Sparta.

FC St. George has just received a generous sponsorship from Utah Youth Soccer Association which gives free home-game admission to any UYSA player in uniform.  Regular ticket prices are $5.00 at the gate.  “This is a great partnership and gives us the opportunity to expose Southern Utah soccer players to a great level of soccer”, says Scott Lambertsen, General Manager of FCSG.

The WPSL is the world’s largest women’s soccer league and plays at a level just one step down from the top professional leagues.  This year the team hosts players from the country’s collegiate ranks as well as a handful of talented local high school players.  Key additions to this year’s squad include Maddy Courvoisier from Texas Christian University, Alex Holland from the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and Kathryn Wertz from Northern Arizona University.  Along with 2011’s team MVP Kalehua Harward (Dixie State) and Allyson Duda (Southern Utah University) they make up a strong side that should challenge the best in the WPSL’s Big Sky North Division.

More action follows the following weekend as FC St. George takes on FC Crush of Las Vegas on June 3, at 8 p.m. and on June 4, hosts SC De Sol of Phoenix also at 8 p.m.  All games will be played at Desert Hills High School stadium.  For more info go to: www.fcstgeorge.com or www.wpsl.info.
