I just wanted to write and say thank you for covering the Brady Aiken child rape case. I live in Kanab and our local paper, the SUN has not bothered to write one word about. If you want my opinion, it is because Brady’s dad Sam Aiken owns two stores, Dukes clothing and Samco gas station and is a big advertiser in the SUN news. Brady has been living with his parents here in Kanab, TWO blocks from the elementary school. Dozens of kids walk by his house daily. Also he has been working at Samco where children go every day. It makes me sick how child molesters get off so easy. I am glad that he is in jail at last, anyone that would rape their own child should never walk the streets free, even if daddy is rich.

Judge judge judge away!!
You may be right about the family dynamic but who are you to judge? Do you not know the pain and suffering that family has gone through and continues to go through?! Try putting your-self in their shoes! You want to believe it’s not true! You don’t want a lynch mob and people judging your family like you have done in your statements!
Yes Brady deserves punishment but what of the family? Can you imagine your family going through this?! They ache every second of every day! They can’t see their grandchildren, they can’t pass people like you on the street without judgment and embarrassment and humiliation.
Yes I feel that it’s important for the media to report things that affect us as a community so that we can be informed and make wise and adult decisions on what we will do with this information. Not to judge, blame or put others down for trying to protect their family.
Since you have already hung Brady give the rest of the family a chance to deal with their own pain the way the way they feel they can or should and stop judging. Do with the information that is in the media what you want but back off the family!
Unless you have experienced this in your own family (which judging by your comments and accusations you haven’t) you would know that there is no right way or wrong way to deal with this pain!!!!! And FYI I am a victim of child rape from a family member and it’s people like you that make it so difficult for victims, families of victims and perpetrators to be able to freely communicate and deal with the pain and suffering and go about our daily lives living with this terrible issue that affects millions!
I understand that being a member of a community that this affects you feel a need to protect the children with in it BUT it is NOT your place to pass judgment on the family and how they decide to cope and handle their terrible situation that they did not ask for nor deserve!!!!!!!
I know that this paper submitted your comment to show the suport of their reporting wich is fine but the accusations your made in your comment regarding the family are irresbonsible and it only brings more pain and heart ache and gives others the ammunition they need to do more judging and finger pointing! So hurtful and so wrong you are!
Also the Spectrum hasn’t reported on this case and I’m pretty sure that the so called rich daddy doesn’t have his ins with them!!! So your point is invalid! Since you are expressing our opinions or judgments just purely on observations!
OMG, small towns are more dangerous and hypocritical than the city, this being a perfect example-everybody knows your name and your life… ugh! STG is THE smallest I could do and it’s still too small where big names are known by too many. Goodluck on this case trying to get swept under the rug, so insane.
When you are reporting a story about a crime that’s fine but leave the family out of it!! To make such accusations are again…….. IRRESPONSIBLE!! And it is so irresponsible of this media outlet to post this letter with the intention of the Author to point fingers, blame, and judgment directly at the family of the person who committed the crime! With no facts!! Just assumptions and judgments!! Listing names and associations is wrong! It’s blanton and uncalled for and undeserved!!
I’ve known Brady and most of his family when I moved to Kanab in 1996. I moved out of Kanab as soon as possible at the end of 1999. Reason… Just see the above. I can’t say anything bad about the Aiken family. They were all very nice individuals. As business owners they were more fair and delightful to deal with than anyone down here in Southern California. I got out of that town just for the reasons stated by “Str8realtalk”. You can not live in a town as small as Kanab or even St. George without everyone knowing everything about you and if you are not of the Mormon religion, forget it! But I never experienced any religious racism by the Aikens. This I respected, greatly.
I pray they get thought this trying time. As far as “judging” goes, as everyone seems to be bringing up, I don’t feel this is judging, it is just people expressing their feelings and that is what America is about.

Are you serious?? It’s the families fault for raising such a spoiled brat who turned to a monster. Him and his family deserve all the harsh judgment. Maybe next time they will worry about raising their kids instead of raising a business. I personally know the Aikens so I can make such a claim.

I’m always impressed by people who post as “anonymous” and then go on to give “personal knowledge” of certain things (sarcasm).
Regardless, whether it’s judging or not, the family should know that putting their son in a situation where he is going to be around kids is absolutely the wrong thing to do. They may think they’re helping, and I’m sure in many ways they are, but how can they that (if it’s true) that putting him to work anywhere around children is a good idea?
Putting blame on the family is ridiculous, too. Everyone makes their own choices, and they know right from wrong. Hopefully Aiken will spend a long time in jail, and hopefully his family gets the help they need, but most importantly I hope the victims are able to get help and have a normal life.
Don’t turn this into a Penn State finger-pointing and who’s-hurt-more scenario.
Katie, you must not have children who go to kes and walk up and down the street unprotected right in front of the aiken house. You know, the house he was visiting while out on a $40,000 bail and picked up 2 little girls and took them to wendys. He obviously has issues he can’t control and I don’t care who his family is, I don’t want the sick bastard anywhere near where my children might be…. Especially school!!!!!!!!!!

Personally as a mother I would not want this man on the streets he has a really sick problem that should be addressed and not swept under a rug. Living so close to the elementary school concerns me also. It’s a temptation seeing all the children walking home after school, much like waving a drink in front of an alcoholic.
