ST. GEORGE, UT-The Dixie State College golf team used a balance team effort to shoot a first day total of 582, good enough for 2nd place after 36-holes. The tournament is being held at the Sunbrook Golf Course on the Woodbridge and Point 9-hole courses.
Hosting the 2011 PacWest Championships at their home course should give the home team Dixie State College an advantage.
The Red Storm used a balanced team effort to post a 582, four strokes off the leader Hawaii-HIlo at 578. The Vulcans Blake Snyder shot 138 (68-70) to sit atop the leader board.
Kyle Chappell (Richfield, UT/Richfield) shot a 144 (69-75) for 5th place in the individual race. Nick Drost (Salt Lake City, UT/Brighton HS) (72-75) and Chad Crowther (South Jordan. UT/Bingham HS) (70-77) 147 have them tied for 10th overall.
Coach Reed McAthur said, “We put oursleves in a place where we have a chance to bring home a PacWest Championship on our home course. We didnt play especially well and if we can make some small adjustments we are going to have a chance.”
Low scorer today for the Red Storm was Conner Jones (South Jordan. UT/Bingham HS) (82-68) who’s 2nd round 68 helped to propel the Red Storm from 6th place after 18-holes to their current position in 2nd place.
Mathew Brearton (South Jordan, UT/Bingham HS) shot 153 (77-76) and is tied for 25th place.
Nine teams are featured in the PacWest Tournament and it includes 45 players.
