INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Dixie State women’s basketball made program history Sunday receiving an at-large bid for the 2011 NCAA Division-II National Tournament – a first invitation for the women’s team.
The Red Storm enter the West Regional as the No.6-seed and face No.3 Cal State Monterey Bay in the first round Friday at 12:30 p.m. Pacific time. Games will be played in Pomona, Calif, hosted by the host Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona.
Dixie State completed the regular season 24-3 and second in the Pacific West Conference at 14-2. Sophomore forward Johnna Brown averaged 16.9 points and 10.2 rebounds to lead the Storm. Senior forward Breann Hill scored 16.7 points per game and Sheila Adams adds 12.1 PPG. Senior center Erica Carlson led the nation in blocks, tallying 109 stuffs in 27 games.
In DSC’s half of the bracket is Pacific West Conference champ and No. 2-seed Grand Canyon. The Lady Lopes take on No. 7 Seattle Pacific in a rematch from the GNAC/Pac West Classic held in St. George in November.
On the other side, the top-seeded Broncos face No. 8 CSU San Bernardino while a rematch of the GNAC Tournament final occurs in the 4-5 matchup – Western Washington versus Alaska Anchorage.
First round games occur Friday, the second round is Saturday and the regional final is set for Monday.
