MGLF: Reardon’s 66 Secures Dixie State Victory

ST. GEORGE – Taylor Reardon (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) shot a final round of 66 to lead the Dixie State College golf team to first place finish and a major upset of ten Division I golf teams at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invite at the Sunbrook Golf Course.

Coach Reed McArthur said, “To be able to compete in this kind of tournament speaks volumes about our players. They competed very well and I am very proud of them.”

The Red Storm shot 570 (285-285), six strokes under par and five strokes better than last years champion and second place College of Charleston’s 575.

Reardon (73-66) finished two strokes off 1st place medalist Mason Casper’s (67-70) 137. Kyle Chappell () (69-73) finished 4th and Nick Drost (Salt Lake City, UT/Brighton HS) (71-72) finished 7th, all three golfers had under par rounds.

Matt Brearton, playing as an individual in the tournament, finished 15th by shooting (72-73). Conner Jones (South Jordan. UT/Bingham HS) (72-74) finished tied for 23rd and Chad Crowther (South Jordan. UT/Bingham HS) (75-79) finished 51st.

This win marks the first tournament win for the Red Storm since their win at the Western Washington Tournament in Bellingham, WA in September of 2009.

Dixie State next travels to the Cal State San Bernardino Invite February 28th thru March 1. They will also host the PacWest Golf Championships at the Sunbrook Golf Course April 17 and 18.
