Hatch statement on swearing in of James Thompson for US Marshal for Utah

WASHINGTON – Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, issued the following statement today on the swearing in of James Thompson as the new U.S. Marshal for Utah:

“I would like to publically extend my congratulations to James Thompson, who was sworn in today to become the U.S. Marshal for Utah,” Hatch said. “He brings a high level of commitment and a wealth of law enforcement experience to this vitally important position, and I have every confidence that he will do an outstanding job in serving and protecting the people of Utah.”

Hatch also praised Randall Anderson, who served as the U.S. Marshal for Utah for 12 years until his retirement last month.

“Randall Anderson’s service to the nation and the people of our great state has been exemplary and a real credit to the U.S. Marshals Service. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say he will be greatly missed, and I join with them in wishing him well in retirement.”

Prior to Thompson’s appointment as U.S. Marshal for Utah, he served as chief deputy U.S. Marshal for the District of Utah. Thompson also has served as an instructor at the U.S. Marshals Service Training Academy at Glynco, Ga., and as an inspector and a deputy for the agency in Tennessee and North Carolina, respectively.
