ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College will hold its final weekly noontime “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” convocation of the 2010 fall semester this Tuesday, Dec. 7, with a special presentation on the history of movie making in Utah with Dr. James V. D’Arc, curator of the Brigham Young University Motion Picture Archive.

The Forum will begin at 12 noon, in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSC campus. Admission is free for all community members, DSC students, and faculty and staff.

Dr. D'Arc will discuss his new book, When Hollywood Came to Town: A History of Moviemaking in Utah, which is the result of more than 30 years of research on this hitherto untold aspect of Utah's history. D’Arc has taught courses on motion picture history and culture at BYU’s Theatre & Media Arts and American Studies departments. He also directs the BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series and is producer of the BYU Film Music Archive Soundtrack CD Series.
