Zumba instructors raise funds for breast cancer patients

ST. GEORGE- Months of planning were put into last Saturday’s Zumba-Night in Pink event held at the St. George Town Square. Eighteen Zumba instructors assisted Kerry Langston to make the event a success.

The goal of the event was to raise funds to help patients who require post mastectomy aid after breast cancer treatment. The Zumba instructors donated their time and efforts so all the proceeds from the Zumba-Night in Pink event could go to a local business that helps breast cancer patients in need.

All the proceeds were given to Carol’s Post Mastectomy located at 330 E. 600 S. in St. George. Carol’s in St. George is the second facility opened. The first facility was started in Henderson, Nev.

Carol’s offers unique services, such as personal bra fitting, consultation, and accessories needed after a woman is treated for breast cancer.

The 145 participants told Langston that the event “was so fun, well organized, and the prizes were great.”  Many local businesses donated cash and raffle prizes to help support the cause. Langston reported the event raised approximately $1,800.

“We did it for a good cause,” Langston said. “We delivered the money and [the organization] was so excited. [Carol’s] already had appointments lined up to help fund people without insurance that might not have gone to Carol’s otherwise.”

Langston plans to repeat the event next year and get more involvement from the instructors teaching and from the community.

Carol’s Post Mastectomy can be reached through its website at www.carolsutah.com or at 435-688-0452.
