ST. GEORGE – St. George’s semi-professional football team is gearing up for the new season with an upcoming fundraiser, new owners and a new name that will create some old rivalry.
 
According to St. George Blitz owner Josh Smith, the Blitz have officially folded. Previous Blitz players Doug Cook, Andy Stokes and Wayne Alofipl, have created the Dixie Rebels using the same players as the Blitz and, of course, Coach Greg Croshaw.
 
“We want to bring the tradition of the Dixie Rebels back to St. George,” Cook said when asked about the new name. “It’s the same team as last year with some new Dixie State alumni that used to play for Croshaw, as well. So we should be even better this year.”
 
The team is coming off of a good season though, bringing home the first championship last year. This year they will continue playing at Dixie High School and they will bring back the dance team, now called the Dixie Chickz.
 
But since the team is starting over from scratch, they have planned a fundraiser to help them with new uniforms and equipment. Cook said they are holding a Midnight Madness Flag Football tourney on Nov. 12 from 6 p.m. to midnight. The cost to register an 8-man team is $100 before Nov. 5 and $125 after that date. Teams will play five-on-five.
