Pine Views Hawes assists Panthers in shutout over DHHS

ST. GEORGE – The Deseret Hills Thunder (4-1-1) was still stinging from last week's 5-1 loss to Dixie and wanted to get the momentum flowing again when they faced Pine View ladies soccer and Pine View's 3-3 record tonight.

However, tonight was not to be the night for regaining that momentum. The Panthers Makenzie Hawes scored two goals and added an assist leading her team to a 3-0 shutout of Desert Hills.

Hawes first goal came with 20:55 remaining in the first half. Junior forward Kali Stubbs blasted a ball on goal that was saved by Thunder goalie Brittany Doman. The ball bounced free and Hawes drove the rebound home. Her second goal would come with 28:40 left in the game. A ball driven towards the Desert Hills goal was hand balled by a defender which gave Hawes a free kick and she didn't miss.

The final tally of the night came from junior Kali Stubbs with 21:37 left in the match. The Panthers clamped down on the Thunder and ran out the clock preserving the shutout for senior goalie Jessica Stone.

Next on the schedule for Desert Hills is Snow Canyon next Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. start at Snow Canyon. Upcoming for the Panthers is a road trip to Canyon View next Tuesday for a match that is scheduled for 4 p.m.
