ST. GEORGE — Enterprise is headed back to the 2A state championship game after blowing away North Sevier 13-3 Friday evening at Dixie State’s Bruce Hurst Field.

Enterprise high school utahnorth-sevier-logoThe Enterprise Wolves knocked the ball all around Hurst Field’s expansive green outfield. They had 13 hits, including three each by Caden Prisbrey and Kayson Bundy. The Wolves hope their return to the title game, where they lost to Manti 6-5 a year ago, turns out a little better.

“Yeah, we were there last year, but didn’t get it done,” said EHS coach Kyle Bundy. “We’re pretty excited to be back and I wouldn’t be surprised to see North Sevier again. They’re a quality team.”

Bundy said his players actually went to school most of the day before heading to St. George for the tournament semifinal.

“They really swung the bats well, and I think it was because they went to school,” Enterprise coach Kyle Bundy said. “They had to go to school all day. I didn’t make them, the principal did, but I think it was a good thing. They didn’t have time to sit around and think about it.”

The coach’s son, Kayson, hit his 21st double of the season, which ties a single-season record in the state of Utah. On the record-tying hit, the North Sevier defense had shifted hard to left field, but the senior catcher went the other way with the ball and easily cruised into second base before the fielders could chase down the hard ground ball to right field.

North Sevier actually led 2-0 in the game, touching Enterprise starter Brandell Shumway for four hits in the first inning.

But in the bottom of the second, Enterprise grabbed the lead for good. Chandler Bowler started it off with an infield single deep in the hole to short that brought home Caden Prisbrey to make it 2-1. After a walk loaded the bases, Shumway ripped a single over the third baseman’s head to bring home Cole Stratton and Bowler. Quade Jones then doubled to make it 4-2.

Shumway then started to find his groove on the mound, at one point retiring 10 straight North Sevier batters.

In the meantime, Enterprise scored a run in the third to make it 5-2 and then started to pull away with a five-spot in the fourth. In that inning, Jones reached on an error and then the next seven batters either got a hit or walked for Enterprise. Prisbrey had an RBI double in the rally.

North Sevier got a run back in the top of the fifth, but three more came home for the Enterprise Wolves in the bottom of the fifth. Prisbrey’s double to the gap in right-center ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule.

“North Sevier is really tough at home and they got us there this year,” Bundy said. “I don’t know if we’ve ever beat them at their place. They’re just a quality team. This is a big park and if you can find gaps, those gap hits are just big momentum grabbers. We found a few gaps.”

Prisbrey doubled twice and had three RBIs for Enterprise, which will play the winner of Grand and North Sevier in the 2A state title game Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Hurst Field. Grand and North Sevier play Saturday at 9 a.m. to determine who will advance to the title game.

Shumway pitched four innings for the win, allowing five hits and two earned runs.
