Countdown to Miss America: St. George woman vies for crown tonight

ST. GEORGE – The big day has arrived for St. George’s own Krissia Beatty, as she and 51 other Miss America contestants will find out Sunday night which of them has won the coveted crown for 2015.

The final leg of the 2015 Miss America pageant will be broadcast live Sunday from Atlantic City, New Jersey, beginning at 7 p.m. MDT on the ABC network.

Service has been a big part of the Miss America experience for Beatty and the other contestants outside of rehearsals and competing. Earlier this week, the women took time out of their busy pageant schedules to give back to the Atlantic City community as part of a new program called “Miss America Serves.” The contestants collected food donated by public school children and delivered the donations to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.

“While we’re here at Miss America, they want us to give back and to really get to know the community,” Beatty said.

A graduate of Desert Hills High School in St. George and currently a communications major at Dixie State University, Beatty is the daughter of Del and Kimberly Beatty of St. George. Her pageant platform, “Live Well — Change the Focus,” aligns with Intermountain Healthcare’s LiVe Well program, encouraging people to eat well, feel well, move well and be well.
