WASHINGTON CITY A teenage boy had to be airlifted by Life Flight to Dixie Regional Medical Center Friday after he drove his dirt bike over cliff, plummeted 40 feet cliff and crashed into a ravine.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., the Washington County Search and Rescue team was dispatched to the hills near East Washington Dam Road and Southern Parkway, in the Warner Valley area, where a group of teens had been riding dirt bikes, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Cashin said. The teens’ fun was cut short when one of the riders went over a cliff, sustaining multiple injuries as a result of his crash.

The boy had to be removed from the area by Life Flight. His injuries included multiple fractures in many of his extremities, two broken legs, at least one broken arm and possibly more injuries, Cashin said.

Hurricane City Fire and Rescue, Hurricane Valley Ambulance, Hurricane City Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Search and Rescue, Washington City Police Department and Utah State Parks and Recreation responded and attended to the accident scene.

Emergency responders cleared the scene about an hour-and-a-half after being dispatched. Cashin said the dirt bike riders did the right thing by calling 911 after their friend’s accident.

Updated information regarding the boy’s condition was not available at the time of this publication.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
