MESQUITE, Nevada – An early morning fire Sunday damaged a home in Mesquite, Nevada, but residents of the home escaped unharmed thanks to alert neighbors.

Two minutes after midnight Sunday morning, Mesquite Police Communications dispatchers began receiving calls of a home fire on Bull Whip Point in the Sun City Mesquite Homes neighborhood.

Residents of the home were notified by neighbors that their home was on fire, Mesquite Fire and Rescue Capt. John Gately said in a press release Monday.

The initial calls reported heavy smoke from the residence, Gately said, and Mesquite Fire requested assistance from neighboring Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire District in Arizona and the Clark County Fire Department Station 71 in Bunkerville, Nevada.

Once fire crews were on scene they observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage area and were forced to initiate what Gately described as a “defensive fire attack.”

After knocking down the main body of the fire, crews were able to enter the structure and extinguish all remaining hot spots.

Initial estimates of the damage range around $75,000, Gately said in his release. Fire damage was predominantly limited to the garage and the attic above, while other areas of the home suffered some smoke and water damage.

“One firefighter did suffer a minor hand injury battling the blaze but was able to continue fighting the fire and did not require medical attention,” Gately said.  “There were no injuries to any civilians.”

The initial cause of the blaze appears to have been accidental, Gately said, but is still under investigation.

Puerile (pyoo-er-il) adj. Childishly foolish; immature or trivial. Appropriate. I’m sure Bosoms, Koolaid and Bobber had to look it up. I get tired of their repetitive comments and digs. I don’t belong to the church they pick on but their stupid remarks make side in the church’s direction.
